President's Message

Welcome to website of the California Blood Bank Society (CBBS).  CBBS is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to improving practice and patient outcomes in the fields of transfusion medicine and cellular therapy (CT) by educating, developing, and inspiring professionals in our field. We are excited to have a team of dedicated and passionate Committee Members and Chairs for the 2019-2020 term! They are committed to providing high quality educational experiences for you through regional seminars and our annual meeting.

We encourage your involvement with CBBS, not only to keep current on what’s happening in the rapidly evolving world of healthcare, but also for the opportunities to make new connections and cultivate relationships with your colleagues in transfusion medicine and cellular therapy. Feel free to explore our website, and if you are not yet a member, please consider joining. CBBS is excited to enhance our social media presence on Facebook as well as expand to Instagram and twitter in the near future. Our hope is to connect you to timely and exciting information about CBBS directly to your pocket. Although our organization is California based, we welcome members from anywhere in the country! If you’re interested in participating on a committee, please complete the Volunteer Now! form. You can see a list of CBBS Committees under the ‘Communities’ tab.

2020-2021 CBBS Board, with our newest member, Diane Geary,  is eager to address both opportunities and challenges as we pave our path forward, working to meet the educational needs and expectations of our membership. We would like to extend a welcome to our newest board member, Diane Geary. The Board and I welcome your suggestions for how we can best serve you. Our contact information is available under the ‘About Us’ tab, CBBS Leadership.

One of the biggest challenges facing CBBS this past year has been the global COVID-19 pandemic. It has forced the board to first reschedule and then cancel the in-person annual meeting that was originally scheduled for May 2020 in Santa Clara. This was the first time in the history of the organization that we have not held an in-person annual meeting. In order to provide our members with the educational programs, we will be having a “mini” annual meeting on August 21-22 which will be entirely virtual. As the year progresses, we will then again offer both the CLS and QSC regional seminars. Finally, assuming the pandemic is no longer a threat, we plan on resuming our in-person annual meeting at the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara, CA on June 25-26, 2021. We hope to see everyone there.

I am honored to follow in the footsteps of our many esteemed past Presidents. I look forward to working with our 2020-2021 Board, our talented Committee volunteers, our engaged and enthusiastic Central Office team, and our valued members as we lay some new stepping stones into the future!
