CBBS President’s Message

Wednesday, August 7, 2019

Welcome to the California Blood Bank Society (CBBS) website! CBBS is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to improving practice and patient outcomes in the fields of transfusion medicine and cellular therapy (CT) by educating, developing, and inspiring professionals in our field. We are excited to have a team of dedicated and passionate Committee Members and Chairs for the 2019-2020 term! They are committed to providing high quality educational experiences for you through regional seminars and our annual meeting.

We encourage your involvement with CBBS, not only to keep current on what’s happening in the rapidly evolving world of healthcare, but also for the opportunities to make new connections and cultivate relationships with your colleagues in transfusion medicine and cellular therapy. Feel free to explore our website, and if you are not yet a member, please consider joining. CBBS is excited to enhance our social media presence on Facebook as well as expand to Instagram and twitter in the near future. Our hope is to connect you to timely and exciting information about CBBS directly to your pocket. Although our organization is California based, we welcome members from anywhere in the country! If you’re interested in participating on a committee, please complete the Volunteer Now! form. You can see a list of CBBS Committees under the ‘Communities’ tab.

The 2019-2020 CBBS Board is eager to address opportunities and challenges as we pave our path forward, working to meet the educational needs and expectations of our membership. We have two new Board members: Dr. Sara Bakhtary and Dr Holli Mason as well as some new and some returning committee chairs, all bringing excitement for the 2019-2020 year. In addition to presenting stellar educational programs we plan to expand our footprint by bringing more members into our community. The Board and I welcome your suggestions for how we can best serve you. Our contact information is available under the ‘About Us’ tab, CBBS Leadership.

We are very pleased to announce our 2020 Annual Meeting. This will take place April 17-18, 2020 at the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara. This meeting will take on a slightly different format, based on suggestions from our Members and Exhibitors. There will be one track of sessions starting at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 17, with an exceptional program to educate, inspire, and energize you. No longer will you need to decide which of two educational sessions to attend when you actually want to hear both topics! There will be many interactive sessions on both days, wrapping up on Saturday at 4:30 PM. I hope you can join us.

I am honored to follow in the footsteps of our many esteemed past Presidents. I look forward to working with our 2019-2020 Board, our talented Committee volunteers, our engaged and enthusiastic Central Office team, and our valued members as we lay some new stepping stones into the future!
