Objectives:     

  • Describe the impact the COVID-19 pandemic had to our hospital based donor center.
  • Identify challenges presented to non-CCP donors and staff
  • Review strategies for CCP collection and distribution

Objectives:

  • Describe the applications of red cell genotyping for hospital transfusion services
  • Characterize possible benefits of red cell genotyping for chronic transfusion recipients   
  • Identify key barriers to widespread implementation of red cell genotyping

  • Describe the lab quality systems that is the basis for regulations and standards.
  • Discuss the triad harmonization for a quality achievement.

  • List the factors contributing to inappropriate O-Neg RBC utilization.
  • List the mitigation strategies that can be employed to decrease inappropriate O-Neg RBC utilization

Case Studies investigating Errors in Reporting and Process Improvement, presented by Terrina Yamamoto, UCSF Health – Clinical Laboratories

Objectives: 

  • Give at least 2 reasons why error reporting is necessary for compliance and quality improvement.
  • Review at least 3 case studies using the essential questions to complete successful error reports 
  • Name the 5 essential questions to answer for a complete error report.

Donor Center Challenges during the COVID Outbreak, presented by Gigi Farrell, Manager, RN, Manager, San Diego Blood Bank   

Objectives: 

  • Describe the challenges with recruiting donors
  • Implement the necessary changes to the collection center layout
  • Describe how to find alternate sites since companies were closed
  • Implement safety precautions that aligned with CDC recommendations including how to deal with staff who were quarantined
