Website Troubleshooting
|
| PROBLEM: Cannot see updated versions of previously visited web pages.
Some colleagues have reported that despite being informed that new postings have been added to the CBBS website, they can only see postings from previous days, similar to what they saw the last time they checked the website. If this occurs it may indicate that your browser is displaying the page in your computer’s local memory (‘cache’) for quick access, rather than accessing the site over the internet for new information. In order to avoid this problem, IF THE CBBS WEB PAGE DOES NOT APPEAR TO REFLECT EXPECTED CHANGES, this can usually be corrected by clicking on your browser’s toolbar icon for ‘Refresh’ (Internet Explorer) or ‘Reload’ (Netscape Navigator). Doing this forces your computer to access the web address you are interested in viewing over the internet, and the latest version of the page is downloaded from the website. (This will work with any website showing this problem.) Such occurrences can be prevented by changing the Settings (or 'Preferences') in your browser to check for a newer version of stored pages every time you view that page. The only disadvantage to this approach is for those who have regular phone connections (rather than fast connections such as DSL or cable) - the extra time would add to their internet costs. To access the above settings in Internet Explorer, go to the toolbar at top, select Tools -> Internet Options -> Temporary Internet Files -> Settings. You should see a screen like that below. Under the heading at top entitled 'Check for newer version of stored pages' click on the radio button for 'Every visit to the page'.
if the above does not completely address your question or concern, please send an email to the Webmaster, or send a detailed question using the online form HERE. |
