It has been prepared and endorsed by AABB, American Association of Tissue Banks, American Society for Apheresis, American Red Cross, America’s Blood Centers, American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation, Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy, ICCBBA, International Society for Cellular Therapy, and National Marrow Donor Program. The US Food and Drug Administration provided a liaison to this group.

The authors present a meta-analysis of the use of tranexamic acid in patients undergoing a total knee arthroplasty which suggests that use of this antifibrinolytic drug can reduce the requirements of blood transfusion in this group of patients.
