Saline replacement technique

A colleague reports that at their facility their transfusion service has been performing the saline replacement technique by replacing the serum/plasma with an equal volume of saline, mixing, respinning, and resuspending. During an inspection, an inspector told them that they should not be respinning after saline addition. The inquiring colleague reports having looked in the AABB Technical Manual and sure enough, the "respinning" step was not in the Methods section. So, has their facility been performing this test incorrectly all these years? What is the significance of not respinning?
