Managing neonatal transfusions with a syringe based delivery system - revisited
A colleague reports that they prepare red blood cell aliquots in a syringe with a 150 micron filter. They issue platelets and plasma in pedi-packs along with an administration set with an 80 micron filter. They are considering preparing red blood cells, platelet and plasma aliquots in a syringe. The inquiring colleague wants to know if there are potential problems inherent with transfusing platelets and plasma through a smaller filter, or storage problems associated with use of the syringe?
The Editors suggest a review of the previous discussion initiated in June 2009.
