What is the practice regarding extending storage of thawed FP24 to 5 days?
A colleague at an academic medical center reports that their teaching hospital has a busy ICU and level one trauma center. They have a high rate of wastage of plasma. Their supplier provides FP24. They currently extend the outdate of thawed FP24 to 48 hours for most indications (not for factor VIII replacement, not for neonates) and extend the outdate to 5 days after thawing for trauma. The inquiring colleague wants to know if it is considered acceptable practice to extend thawed FP24 to 5 days for nearly all indications and if so with what limitations?
