A lay person reports that her son has severe plasma plasminogen deficiency complicated by a condition called ligneous conjunctivitis. There has been some success in treating the child's ocular symptoms, but the mother was wondering if anyone is researching a gene therapy that would address the basic genetic defect to raise the plasma plasminogen level. It is becoming apparent to the family that their son could have symptoms in many areas of his body if they do not correct the underlying plasminogen deficiency. The inquiring mother would like to know if any colleagues work at institutions that currently offer gene therapy for this condition or if any ongoing approved research protocol might be applicable. |
