Is incomplete re-suspension in automated cell washers acceptable?
A Testing Support Associate from America's allies to the North reports incomplete re-suspension of RBCs on an automated cell washer when using a 24-place rotor, but not when using a 12-place rotor. They see a red cell
button and minimal RBC streaming with the 24-place rotor and complete
re-suspension with the 12-place rotor using the performance testing
described in the AABB Technical Manual.
The manufacturer was contacted regarding this finding. Customer service
provided suggestions in trying to resolve this problem but seemed unaware
of the AABB performance testing recommendations.
Have others experienced this issue? If cells are not getting re-suspended,
are they really getting washed?
