Experience with building ISBT component and modified component codes in older LIS systems

The blood bank LIS coordinator at a large donation-based medical facility writes to ask if there are any combination donor center and transfusion services that are on the Cerner Classic® LIS and currently up on ISBT?  She asks "how were the component codes built, especially the modifications?"

The Editors would like to know if any colleagues have done the same with other computer systems.

1. A colleague associated with Information Services at a laboratory in New Mexico comments that they use MISYS for their information system. They are rebuilding the blood bank maintenance to use the ISBT 6 character codes for all of the products. She reports that at this time MISYS does not recognize the 7th and 8th characters for split products. Thus, they will have to use their old codes for split products or make up new ones. They need codes for split products so they can do billing by volume of product.
