Are Transfusion Services billing separately for FFP thawing? |
||
|
The manager of a Transfusion Service in Texas draws our attention to Medicare guidelines on billing for thawed products; specifically that thawing is not separately billable for FFP, cryoprecipitate, or RBCs with "deglycerolized" in the HCPCS description. She points out that her supplier does not thaw their FFP and wonders how that affects billing practices. She asks "are Transfusion Services still charging the FFP thawing fee, (CPT 86927)?" |
