Availability of and experience with Fetal RhD genotype testing |
A colleague in Southern California is aware of a number of articles discussing Fetal RhD genotyping, including papers in:
She reports that her laboratory is getting inquiries from neonatologists about the availability of Fetal RhD genotyping testing, and if anyone has actually had practical experience with this testing. They also want to know if there is a location or facility performing this test in the United States, and if so what is the test sensitivity/specificity, and has the test proven beneficial in the review or treatment of patients. The following comments have been received. ADDENDA Sept. 21, 2005 1. The Scientific Director of a Molecular Blood Group and Platelet Antigen Testing Laboratory in Philadelphia reports that fetal RhD genotyping from PUBS or amniocyte material is currently available in the US at several laboratories, including at the New York Blood Center, at the Wisconsin Blood Center, and at the American Red Cross Molecular Blood Group and Platelet Antigen Testing Laboratory in Philadelphia. This testing is in contrast to fetal genotyping by non-invasive techniques, i.e. isolating fetal DNA from maternal plasma, which is the topic of the articles referenced in the query which initiated this discussion. She reports that her laboratory plans to have fetal genotyping by non-invasive techniques in place and validated by March 2006. She does NOT know of plans at other US institutions. |
