A blood banker in a sunbelt state wonders if any e-network forum colleagues have information about pre-infusion crossmatching of heparinized allogenic bone marrow. Specifically, she wants to know about experiences with pre-bone marrow infusion compatibility testing for detection of ABO or other serologic incompatibilities between allogeneic marrow and the intended recipient, and what problems, if any, have been encountered with this kind of pre-infusion compatibility testing? The inquiring blood banker said that the bone marrow containers at her institution have segments attached, and that the cells from these segments can be used for an immediate spin or antiglobulin crossmatch between the heparinized bone marrow and the serum (or plasma) of the intended marrow recipient.
Editor's comment: Several colleagues who subscribe to the e-network forum work at FACT-accredited institutions. It would be particularly interesting to receive comments from those members.
