Survey on current practices in prevention of transfusion transmitted sepsis syndrome

Recognizing that there are a variety of approaches to avoid transfusion transmitted sepsis syndrome, the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) Transmitted Infection Committee and the Biomedical Excellence for Safer Transfusion (BEST) Collaborative have developed a survey to identify current practices in detecting bacterial contamination in platelets. It is hoped that colleagues will provide data using a reasonably simple survey template that can be found at the following link. (MS Word file) The deadline for submitting the completed survey template is the 18th of October 2004. Reports will be maintained anonymously. Returns and questions should be addressed to chris.prowse@snbts.csa.scot.nhs.uk.
