Screening for quality of platelet concentrates by testing for EDTA-induced platelet shape changes

A colleague in the United Kingdom wishes to share data regarding a method of screening for quality of platelet concentrates, based on EDTA-induced platelet shape changes. The UK colleague is of the belief that such an approach might have some utility for interdicting unacceptable platelet products, such as those contaminated by bacterial growth. This PDF document (provided by the UK colleague) contains specifics about EDTA-induced platelet shape change detection. The UK colleague wonders if other laboratories screen for quality of platelet concentrates by testing for EDTA-induced platelet shape changes, and if so, what has been their experience?
